Battle of the Dramas…Downton vs Call the Midwife on Christmas Day The TV menu is looking fantastic this Christmas. The BBC have gone head to head in a battle of the dramas with ITV’s hit series Downton Abbey by releasing the long awaited Call the Midwife Christmas special at the same time! The East End hospital drama starring Vanessa Redgrave and Miranda Hart was the BBC’s biggest drama for over a decade, showing itself to be a plausible threat to the stiff upper lips and petticoats of Downton. The Abbey will have to have to roll out all disapproving stares and Maggie Smith one-liners it can muster to keep the viewers hooked. Luckily, if you want to watch both there will only be a 15 minute window of despair and anguish while these two programs clash. Call the Midwife’s 75-minute special starts at 8pm while Downton Abbey makes it grand entrance at 9pm. Get your smelling salts at the ready and let the drama commence… Which will you be watching on Christmas day? Let us know your thoughts below..
