Death Come to Pemberley! BBC’s latest adaption The BBC has added to the celebration of 200 years of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice when they announced their commission of an adaption of P.D. James’s 2011 novel, Death Comes to Pemberley. The story continues the events of Pride and Prejudice starting 6 years after the end of Austen’s novel, in 1803. However, the plot takes an unexpected turn when the devious Mr Wickham (Lydia Bennet’s husband) is found murdered. The mystery surrounding his death and hunt to find the killer carries the rest of the novel. The book was a national best seller so naturally the BBC are keen to turn it into their latest adaption phenomenon. Therefore, the Search for the latest Mr Darcy has begun! Reports have emerged heralding Dan Stevens as the favorite to be cast as the nations favorite heart throb. After seeing Stevens sport frilly collars with finesse in Downton Abbey, as Matthew Crawley, we are sure that he will pull of Mr Darcy’s lengthy sideburns just as well. However, further rumors circulating point to Eddy Redmayne (les Miserables), Hugh Dancy (Elizabeth I), Matthew Goode (Birdsong) and even Ryan Gosling (yes please!) as other possibilities for the lead role. Who do you think should play the archetypal romantic hero?
