Joss Whedon has expressed his desire for more female superheroes in the upcoming Marvel Studios films.

Whedon mentioned his interest in developing more strong female superhero characters in an interview with Collider.

“I do try to make sure that the women in the movies aren’t window dressing, that they have something to say and something to do,” he told Collider.

“And I’ve got some people in mind. Marvel’s got some great characters, so why not draw on them.”

Notably there has only been one female superhero in the deluge of superhero films over the past few years and that was the Black Widow in Whedon’s awesome Avengers Assemble. Whedon’s already working on Avengers 2 in which Scarlet Witch has been confirmed as a new character.

With rumours flying around about A Captain Marvel/Ms Marvel film Whedon could be on the way to getting his wish.
