Looking for entertainment this January? What could be better to tackle cold evenings than snuggling up in front of some great new period dramas! From the looks of the lineup this month we have have a lot to choose from! We have singled out the top 5 that we are most excited about this 2014…

5. ‘The Musketeers’ out 19 Jan 2014

This upcoming drama series is based on the well-known story of the Three-musketeers but with a twist. It is set on the streets of 17th century Paris and follows highly trained soldiers and bodyguards on their mission to protect the King and country. This 10-part series stars Tom Burke, Howard Charles, and Santiago Cabrera and will air on both BBC America and BBC One this month.

4. ‘Klondike’ out January 20th

This new exciting series looks like it’s one for the Game Of Thrones fans. This is definitely no Downton Abbey! Based on the events of the Klondike Gold Rush, the plot followers two adventurers who travel west during this period documenting to seek their fortune. The series documents their treacherous journey and meet the variation of interesting characters on their way. The star Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Birdsong) was sent into “real raging river rapids,” avalanches and treacherous 9,000 foot drops during filming, to recreate the struggles that these explorers dealt with in the context of the show. We can’t wait to see it!

3. Bletchley Circle 6th January

Recently started on ITV this costume drama tells the story of a group of woman who worked together at the code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the war and now find themselves reunited in 1952 to solve a murder that is baffling the authorities. Starring well-known faces such as Anna Maxwell Martin and Rachael Stirling, this is proving to be a period drama must see!

2. Mr Selfridge – season 2 19TH JANUARY

It’s back! The wait is over and the much-anticipated Mr Selfridge season 2 is finally here to brighten up our Sunday nights! The season starts 5 years after the end of the first series, right on the brink of World War I. As the conflict looms the effects on the store are clear as Mr Selfridge throws fundraisers to help the troops. In his personal life, his marriage to Rose is still on uncertain ground and the introduction of new characters could be set to shake things up further still. Only a few days left!

1. Fleming

This scorcher of a new drama could be the one to triumph over them all! Dominic Cooper (swoon) stars in Sky Atlantic’s production of the story of Ian Fleming’s first-hand experience of the Bond-like adventures that inspired his fictional secret agent. Copper states, “Even if you’re not a Bond fan, it’s certainly compelling,” says Cooper. “You see all those references and where the inspiration comes from.”  The performance of Lara Pulver as Flemings wife Ann (Sherlock Holmes) is said to be another reason to put this top of your watch list.
