Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch  is a role-playing video game, co-developed by Japanese developer Level-5 and anime company Studio Ghibli for the Nintendo DS, is finally receiving a western release for the PlayStation 3. It’s the first videogame that Oscar-winning animation house Studio Ghibli has ever been involved with.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is the epic story of Oliver and his quest to become a master magician. After his mother dies, a doll given to Oliver by his mother is brought to life by his tears. The doll, now a fairy named Drippy, gives Oliver a book that allows him to use magic and enter the world of ‘Ni no Kuni’ a parallel universe. In ‘Ni no Kuni’ Oliver must search for his mother whilst using his newfound magical skills to face off deadly foes and survive an encounter with the White Witch herself.

As Oliver, the player takes part in battles using the magic book given to him by Drippy. During battles, players will be able to arrange their characters anywhere on the bottom screen to implement various tactics. The world of Ni no Kuni actually runs parallel to the real world. Players will be able to travel between the two. Characters who appear in one world appear in the other as well, but with different roles in this unique RPG experience.

The major appeal of this game stems from the beautiful Studio Ghibli animations that make up the gameplay. If you’re a fan of Ghibli’s whimsical films then make sure you check this game out. It promises to be a very special video game experience.

Ni no Kuni is released in the Europe on the 1st February.

The demand for Ni no Kuni has taken it’s developers by surprise and amazon.co.uk has already run out of stock. You can still pre-order but you will not receive your game by the release date.
