It seems that the nation does love a bit of Jane Austen as Colin Firth’s Mr Darcy has topped the poll in the nation’s most memorable British drama moment of all time. The moment that Mr Darcy emerged soaking wet from a lake in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice beat moments from Eastenders, Sherlock and even Downton Abbey !

We’re surprised that it beat Sherlock’s ‘death’ but then again who can resist a bit of Darcy !

The top 5 moments consisted of popular soaps such as Eastenders and Coronation Street as well as new drama Broadchurch. Unsurprisingly Sherlock’s ‘death’ also made the top 5 with a 14% share of the vote (We’re still desperate to find out how he did it!)

2,000 Britons were asked to name their favourite UK drama moment to coincide with the launch of new UKTV channel Drama. See the rest of the results below:
