Simply the best sponsor for simply the best programme!

The Finest* period drama on TV has announced its new sponsor for Downton Abbey’s series 4: Tesco! However, it won’t be any old bog-standard sausages and mash showing their support for the strife of the Grantham family. Tesco have stated that the sponsor will be exclusively the suitably posh Tesco Finest* range. How Delightful.

David Wood, Tesco marketing director, said: “We are really excited to be working with Britain’s best-loved drama…Downton Abbey is a great fit for Tesco Finest*. The show is well-crafted, authentic and inspiring.’

The newest series is set in 1922, six months after Matthew Crawley’s tragic car accident (let’s hope he took out his Tesco car insurance!) and the birth of a son and heir to Downton Abbey, who, it is rumoured, enjoys his kumquat and pomegranate puree on a wholegrain, seeded rusk.

We have our fingers crossed for some strategic product placement and have put together a few ideas for ITV to slip in subtly, as shown it in our photos of The Dowager Countess.
